Most everyone knows what a cicada is:
A cicada (pronounced /sɪˈkɑːdə/ or pronounced /sɪˈkeɪdə/) is an insect of the order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha, in the superfamily Cicadoidea, with large eyes wide apart on the head and usually transparent, well-veined wings. There are about 2,500 species of cicada around the world, and many remain unclassified. Cicadas live in temperate to tropical climates where they are among the most widely recognized of all insects, mainly due to their large size and remarkable acoustic talents. Cicadas are sometimes colloquially called “locusts”,[1] although they are unrelated to true locusts, which are a kind of grasshopper. They are also known as “jar flies”. Cicadas are related to leafhoppers and spittlebugs. In parts of the southern Appalachian Mountains in the United States, they are known as “dry flies” because of the dry shell that they leave behind. While you were probably already familiar with cicadas, I bet you haven’t heard of the band, Cicada Summer. Allow me to introduce you. They have been playing nonstop in my stereo in the urban jungle of Chicago and through the endless highways just short of Canada on the way to my new favorite hideout in Wisconsin. Speros, of Cicada Summer dropped me an email last week and was kind enough to tell me he is enjoying my site. Now, no matter who you are that means a lot to me but these guys are talented musicians and have a great sound. Check them out. http://cicadasummer.bandcamp.com
Stay tuned for more from the boys from Georgia who truly have a sound all to their own. I will be sitting down later this week with Speros and Max of Cicada Summer to talk shop and find out more of what is going on in their life down south. In the meantime, grab your sauce and marinate this: http://cicadasummer.bandcamp.com (Free album download and listen). EVERY song is worth the listen and an instant classic. Turn it up!
