Baïkal Amour Magistral from France

It is not everyday I receive an email from France. After Simon initially contacted me, I wrote him back telling him I especially enjoyed one of the tracks he sent me titled Leica.

His letter:

Bonjour monsieur Chris Parish,

First of all, thank you for your regard.
So, I’m french, i’m 19 year old and I make my music alone, sometimes with another singer.
My influences are certainly the Fado music, the IDM and pop. I adore Godard and I like Beirut.
A tour is impossible for the moment because i’m alone for all the instruments.
I would like record an little album or Ep.
Merci beaucoup.
Au revoir.

Simon Beaumont.

My thoughts:
The Leica camera has always been a special part of my family going all the way back to my grandfather, who was never seen without a camera in his hand. I will never forget how my mom and him would joke back and forth about the pronunciation of the German camera company. Mom would look at Daddy Bub and smile and jokingly pronounce it “Leeka”. Daddy Bub would just smile and give her a funny look. Also, when I think of France I always think of my grandmother who has always adored Paris, her face still lightens up if you mention Paris just like it lightens up when someone shares a memory about Daddy Bub with her.

Thank you to my grandparents and my parents who have all held a wonderful family together and will always continue to do so.

The song:
Baïkal Amour Magistral- Leica

This song reminds me of the band Fanfarlo, just a little rougher recording which is the part that has started to grow on me. Best of luck Simon, you deserve it, thanks for sharing.

More of Simon’s work here.

Happy Friday kids, be good this weekend.

Hey not sure if you know but BAM has since released two demos on bandcamp! A magazine from Chicago also did an article on them.
