William Eggleston’s Album Covers

By: Annie Sturgis

There seems to be something about William Eggleston’s photographs that artists are drawn to for their album covers. From Radio City’s Big Star to Chuck Prophet’s Age of Miracles to The Derek Trucks Band’s Soul Serenade, Eggleston’s photographs have appeared on numerous album covers over the years. The most recent addition to Eggleston’s Album cover repertoire? Spoon’s Transference.

If you are interested in seeing Eggleston’s work for yourself, I highly recommend checking out William Eggleston’s retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago. William Eggleston: Democratic Camera, Photographs and Video, 1961-2008 is on view now through May 23, 2010.
